Went here for happy hour in offseason. Ordered a half lb. of crab legs and something similar to sweet and sour chicken. Both were excellent! The price for the crab legs was a great. My wife ordered the beef tips over mashed potatoes which she enjoyed but felt the serving size was small. Domestic bottled beers were cheap. We ate outside, the inside was dark and not very inviting. But overall food was delicious!

Great place to go to see the local drunks assault tourists. Not a safe venue for families on vacation

Waitress was great and food was good but had to wait almost 2 hours for the entree.....they were definitely understaffed. Would not go back

Great food. It's a little dark inside and easy to miss if you don't know where it is, but the staff is friendly, the sushi is fresh, and the hot food is super tasty. I'm not sure what is going on with the atmosphere; it's a cross between a dive bar and a moose lodge. But don't let that fool you! Worth a trip for locals and tourists alike.

We stopped in here last night to check it out and get something good to eat. There was no one to greet my party of three so we stood and the door and waited. I finally spotted someone who worked here and asked her if we were to seat ourselves. She responded by telling me she was off the clock. I asked her if she could please just let us know if we were to wait here to be seated. She said they were no longer serving food. We decided to go to a restaurant where we could actually eat.

I almost gave it 5 stars because my husband liked it too. We stopped here for dinner because every other place had long lines out the door. They have outside seating ate fried grouper Ruben he had chicken Marcella karaoke. Two months later and we are still talking about how good this place is and what a great find.

Ate at 39th Ave. Bar & Grill on the recommendation of a neighbor that this place had great sushi and was greatly disappointed. First impressions, the place was small and dark. Had a large bar with a few tables inside. My boyfriend and I were the only people there. I took notice of the sushi area and should've known from the looks of it not to order. There was Chinese decor throughout the sushi bar area. Sushi is Japanese. The waitress greeted us right away and told us we could sit wherever we liked. She came out with menus and explained the happy hour special. Drink prices were good for HH. $2 Domestics, $2 Well, $3 House Wine. We ordered drinks while we decided on the rolls. The bartender made the drinks and sat them on the bar. Thought she should've brought them over seeing as we were the only table there and even contemplated going over and grabbing them myself. We waited another 10 minutes before we saw the waitress again. She took our order and then grabbed the drinks from the bar. While waiting for the food to come, another 3 couples came in and our appetizer came to the table. We ordered the Ying Yang chicken. Pretty good! The chicken was fried and covered in some kind of spicy sauce. Meanwhile, our drinks were done and the waitress wasn't around to order another round. When she did reappear, she went right up to the bar and used the bar gun to fill a small clear bin with water. She then proceeded to wash some soy sauce bottle caps at the bar in the bin. I thought this was inappropriate and unsanitary as she did this from the customer side of the bar and in view of all the customers. Isn't there a kitchen for that?? Onto the sushi. We ordered an Eel Roll, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Roll and Spider Roll. The plating was nice, very pretty. Everything LOOKED really good. My boyfriend always orders an Eel roll when we have sushi. It's his favorite. He had a bite of that first and was immediately turned off by a fishy taste. I tried it and also noted a very fishy taste. The table next to us overheard our comments while they were ordering and asked which one was fishy so that they didn't order it either. The waitress stood there and did not comment on any of it. The Spicy Tuna was good, probably the best roll there, and the spider roll was just okay. It was the first time I had an asparagus stalk in my spider roll and the first time the soft shell crab in it was fried to the point of hard and crunchy versus light and crispy. The Salmon Roll was not fresh. Needless to say, there were leftovers (first time in my sushi eating history) and we left hungry. Overall, Ying Yang chicken was good as well as the Spicy Tuna roll but the good was not enough to out weigh all the really bad. From cleanliness to service to food quality, this place gets two thumbs down. If you can't do sushi right, don't have it on your restaurant sign (i.e.: Sushi, Seafood, Steak) and pretend to be anything close to a sushi joint. Stick with what you know or do your research. Definitely won't recommend this place to anyone.

Very good food and a kind staff, walking in it looks kind of sketchy. But the sushi is great and the California chicken sandwich was banging! Server Brandi was also a champ at keeping up on drinks!

Great atmosphere. It seems like more of a locals hang out. We were disappointed the last time we came because they do close down the sushi bar early. They're sushi is good if you like the deep fried stuff..this IS south carolina after all!!! The service is great. A great place to get drinks but the regular food is meh.

I was incredibly surprised by the quality and variety of food served at 39th Ave. Bar & Grille. Our server (Mark) was incredible, very attentive and accomodating. The food was delicious. The happy hour specials were amazing ($2 domestics?! $3 house wines?!). I highly recommend this place for great food in a relaxing atmosphere.

We had four people in our party. A party of six came in 10 minutes after us. We watched as they ordered before us and were served drink orders twice to our once and finished their food before our's arrived. It was over 55 minutes after we arrived before our appetizers arrived and only two of us was served. The other two members of our party had to wait over 70 minutes for for an order that was incorrect. Food was pretty good but service was UNACCEPTABLE. Poor service for the price. Probably will not go back and we live close by. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Nice atmosphere...kinda like Cheer's....everyone knows eachother. We had the Happy Hour specials; $2buck domestics and the baskets. Grouper Bites and the Shrimp baskets were the best!

Dark inside. Food did not come out at the same time at our table and when the first order was sent back for not being as described it never returned. New owners offered a free desert for the problem. Hard to do when you have not even had dinner! Too many other GREAT restaurants close by . As a LOCAL. I would not recommend!!
